Panopto Cloud Operations Status: Incident Update

Affected Infrastructure Components: Website, Video playback, Search, Recording / Uploading, Processing / Encoding, Integrations Locations: Europe (EU)

Update: On 2022-10-10 between 09:09 UTC and 10:37 UTC, the Panopto EU cloud experienced increased error rates and latency resulting in general website instability. During this time period, users may not have been able to perform operations such as logging in or editing content and there may have been a delay in new or updated content appearing in search results.

RCA: Due to a usage pattern change, a frequently used database query began to use a suboptimal execution plan. This new execution plan caused excessive resource utilization, resulting in increased error rates as other queries were delayed and timed out. The Panopto operations team responded by removing the execution plan, which resolved the issue. Additionally, the time to resolution was delayed due to a gap in our escalation process that has since been closed.

To prevent a recurrence of this issue, our engineering team has optimized the query to ensure better-performing execution plans are used.

On Wednesday, October 12th we will be performing scheduled maintenance on a subset of our Google Dedicated servers. This maintenance will be during the following maintenance window time frame for each region to minimize impact on your site.

Data Center location: Maintenance window: Asia-Pacific Wednesday, 10/12: 8a - 2p Central Time Europe Wednesday, 10/12: 4p - 10p Central Time Americas Wednesday, 10/12: 10p - 4a Central Time

For this subset of servers, we do expect that the maintenance may result in up to a 15 minute interruption of service as the server is rescheduled. Outside of the temporary service interruption, there should be no impact to your site. We will be monitoring the situation closely to ensure minimal disruption.

Please note - This maintenance will not apply to any of our shared, or clustered offerings.

Unexpected Service Degradation Incident resolved We’ve fixed it!

Due to an unexpected service degradation, users of Turnitin and Turnitin UK may have experienced issues with uploading submissions, slowness, along with a delayed report-generation time for Similarity Reports. Users accessing these services via an integration may also have been affected.

We are pleased to advise that service has now been restored.

The incident occurred between the following times:
